On my one year cancerversary, I hosted a party to celebrate being one year cancer free but also the party doubled as a fundraiser for Teal Diva. We were trying to get our 501-c-3 from the IRS and needed some financial assistance. A friend had some t-shirts printed up and we collected donations.
A long time friend of the family came and gathered every female at the party. She told each of them to hold hands and form a circle around me. And then, she read this story....
"In the wild, when a female elephant is sick, all the other female elephants in the herd back around her in formation. They close ranks so that the vulnerable elephant cannot even be seen in the middle. They surround the sick elephant to protect her. "
She obviously modified the story to fit the situation. But in the moment, I felt overwhelmed with emotions and positive female vibes. I felt like I could conquer anything with these ladies by my side.
Fastforward
When we were looking at re-branding earlier this year, I was at a loss. I had no idea what to do. One day I was driving and the elephant story popped in my head. I Googled it to get the full story...I mean it had been since 2010 since I had heard the story. I approached our Board of Directors with it and they loved it as much as I did.
